I have had a wonderful beginning to my Thanksgiving vacation.  We were out of school today, so I took my girls to the movies.  We had a lot of fun and saw a great movie!  I look forward to spending time with my family tomorrow for Thanksgiving.  I know that I have so many things to be thankful for.

After tomorrow, I have a few new packets to add to my my TpT store to get it ready for the Cyber Monday and Tuesday sale!  I also need to get my cart filled up and ready to save money.  All of the items in my store will be 20% off, and with the TpT discount, you can receive 28% off!  I am linking up with Gina from Beach Sand and Lesson Plans, Fourth Grade Flipper, as well as other bloggers for Fabulous Finds and Favorite Feedback Linky.  Take a look at my fabulous finds below, then visit all of the other blogs to see what they have in their carts.  You may find some things that are perfect for your class!

Nouns and Thanksgiving

Have I mentioned that my class must be the sweetest little class EVER?  They are just precious.  No, they are not perfect, but I have to admit that I enjoy each and every one of them!  They have been working so hard and learning so much!

I wanted to share with you a writing lesson that the students loved, and so did I!  This activity is The Peanut Gallery's Abstract Noun Jars Art and Writing Activity.   As she says,  "It provides students with an opportunity to use their creativity and imagination while learning about abstract nouns."  Abstract nouns can be a difficult concept for some students, but this fun activity definitely helped my students to understand the concept.  Here are some of the results!

Their writing that accompanied this activity was great!  We really enjoyed this simple, but effective project.  If you are looking for a way to review abstract nouns, I highly recommend this packet.
I also want to share my new Owl About My Thanksgiving Posters.  These are great for a simple Thanksgiving activity to allow students to write and share about their Thanksgiving traditions and memories.  I can't wait to use these with my students. These are available at my TpT store.
Be blessed!

Five For a Fabulous Friday!

I just love autumn.  It is definitely my favorite time of the year, and I feel so blessed to see another fall.  Today we had a wet and messy day.  It was the kind of day that I would have loved to have been at home, curled up on the couch with my crochet.  Instead, we had a great day at school doing some things that I love:  reading!

Today I have finally gathered together my 5 for Friday to link up with Kacey at Doodle Bugs.  To be completely honest, these 5 are not all from this week. They are actually from each week that I had great intentions of linking up, but didn't for one reason or another.  Anyway, I hope you might find something useful or helpful below.

We have been using several different graphic organizers for reading.  This is one that my students enjoyed.  It can be found in my Graphic Organizers for Common Core Reading Literature .  This graphic organizer is a great way for me to see if the students truly understand the vocabulary.
We have been focusing on problem and solution.  This is another graphic organizer from my packet that my students completed.  Once the students completed the graphic organizer, I had them to fold it and glue it into their reading journals.  Then on the outside, they wrote the name of the story, the author, the main character, and the setting.  They also drew a picture of the main character.

Once again, here is another graphic organizer that we have used.

One topic that I really enjoy teaching is genres.  We have been focusing on the genre of folktales.  This is an anchor chart that I created to help the students distinguish between different types of folktales.  The students have referred to this anchor chart many times over the past couple of weeks.

I absolutely love Pinterest.  I know that I could get a lot more housework accomplished if it wasn't for this little addiction that I have to this site.  I have several Pinterest boards that I would love to invite you to follow.  I have created a collaborative Pinterest board for upper elementary teachers that has been growing each day, and I've been so impressed with the great ideas that the collaborators to this board have been pinning.  Drop by and take a look to follow!

Currently So Busy!

Wow!  I know it has been a long time between posts, but I have been drowning!  Between a new reading curriculum, a new language curriculum, teaching history for the first time in years, and two girls playing volleyball every day, I have been going crazy!  I must say; however, that I am so blessed to have a super sweet class this year!  I don't think I could have made it without such a good class.

Now, for my October Currently!

I am excited about several projects that I have been working on for my TpT store!   I want to offer my newest item 1/2 off!  Book Report Bunting:  Owl Themed Pennants is a fun way to have your students write about their reading and display their reviews.  I love bunting, and this packet will not only be a cute way to decorate your classroom, but will also encourage your students to read!
Some of you have already put this packet
on your wishlist, so don't miss out on this offer!

Check it out!

Five for Friday: From Cows to Sweet Tea and Everything In Between

I have to say that I am glad that Friday is here!  The first few weeks of school are such a busy and hectic time for teachers, and when your own children have activities that they are involved in, well, it can get a little crazy!  Around our house with two teachers and two teenagers, September is crazy!  I'm glad that Friday evening is here, and I have an opportunity to relax, watch a little tv, and link up with Doodle Bugs and share my Five for Friday with you.

Let me warn you.  This Five for Friday is very random.

First of all, around our farm we have new calves being born almost everyday.  I love watching the momma cows with their calves.  It has been an exciting time.

Also, on the farm we have ripe muscadines (which are similar to grapes and native to the South).  I love muscadines!  You can find me out at the vines every afternoon or evening enjoying these sweet-as-candy snacks!

Now, for school related topics. We have been studying genres and focusing on realistic fiction this week.  This is an anchor chart that I created to help students remember the characteristics of realistic fiction.
My students also completed an All About My Summer Poster to share about themselves and get to know one another.  This poster can be found in my All About Me Posters packet on TpT.

Finally, have I mentioned that I love sweet tea?  I use to drink colas everyday, but I haven't had a cola(known as "Coke" here in the South) in about 5 years. Instead, I enjoy my sweet tea.  Jack's sweet tea is mighty good stuff.
Be blessed!

Owl Reading Posters

I don't know about you, but my first two weeks of school have busy!  My daily schedule has looked something like this:
  • Get to school by 7:00 a.m.
  • School begins at 8:00
  • Teach, Teach, Teach
  • School is out at 3:00
  • Car riders until 3:20
  • Come back to classroom and work until 5:30 or 6:00
  • Pick up girls from volleyball practice
I just realized why I'm so tired!  11 hours at school?  You would think I have all of my lessons ready for the rest of the school year, but no.  Everything has changed this year:  my schedule, my lessons (We have a new reading series.), and even the subjects.  I'm teaching history for the first time in years.  So, I am feeling a little overwhelmed these days.  Hopefully, this will get better soon.  Fortunately, I am blessed with a super-sweet class this year!

I know that many of you feel the same way: Exhausted!  I hope you have a very restful and enjoyable day today!  As a gift to say thank you for all of your support for my blog and TpT store, I have a gift just for you!  I have a free Owl Themed Reading Motivational Poster that you can download from my TpT store.

If you like this poster, more are available in my Owl Themed Reading Motivational Posters Set.  You'll find 12 cute and colorful owl themed posters that will inspire your students to read, read, read!
