Out with the old! In with the new!

I have had the opportunity to teach 6th, 5th, and 4th grades.  Over those years I have also been in 4 different classrooms.  My last move occured about 4 years ago.  Let me say that I am blessed to work with the most wonderful group of teachers!
That November, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  During my chemo treatments, the chemo wore me down to a point that I could not teach.  During that time, our school was undergoing some physical changes, and our 4th grade teachers needed to move to different classrooms.  My wonderful coworkers (and friends) not only moved their own classrooms, but they moved mine as well.  They did a wonderful job organizing so that when I returned, I was able to find everything.
The only problem was that this room has not felt like my room since I've moved in.  So, I decided it was time for some changes.

The past few weeks, my girls have had volleyball camp and practice.  (I am so proud that they both made the volleyball team!)  While they have been in the gym practicing,  I decided that I would use that time to get my classroom ready.  Believe me,  it needed some work.

What a mess!

I also decided that this dark green cabinet needed painting.  I had purchased new bright green bins this summer to replace the old worn and broken blue ones.  I thought black paint for this cabinet would really spruce things up!

And so I began painting

and painting some more.
I also organized all of my books into bins.  I just love using these colorful bins.  They not only keep things organized, but they add a lot of color.

I even made some new curtains.  I love using curtains over my closet to help hide clutter.

I organized and labeled my filing cabinets.

I made my bulletin boards.

After much work, I believe my room is ready.

Summertime, Summertime!

This was my first blog post, and I have gone back to it to link up with Amy Lemons's Linky Party, Tell Me More on her blog Step into 2nd Grade.  I just love Amy's blog.  It was one of the first I discovered and began stalking.

If you are a fellow teacher, I hope you are enjoying your summer as much as my family.  I love teaching, but after 22 years (Yes!  22 YEARS) by the end of May I am dreaming of a wonderful summer with my family.  My family has had a very blessed summer, and I hope that your family has too.

If you are like me, then you may have had many plans for your summer.  Perhaps vacations or traveling was on your agenda.  My agenda for the summer includes a "to do list".  My "to do list" has included:

Going to Softball Games,  "Go Sydo!"

Spending time with my girls!

Sewing Purses.

Decorating.  (Notice the plate arrangement above the bed.)

And Waiting

And Watching

As our new pool is being built.

Of course, this "to do list" is only a small portion of the list I wished to compele this summer.  Somehow, summer just goes by so quickly.  I realize it is NOT over yet, but I still have many things on my "to do list" that are still unfinished.  I hope you have been able to accomplish most of your "to do list."  Most of all, I hope you have been as blessed as I have to be able to spend precious time with your families.

Now that my girls have started volleyball practice, I have begun working in my classroom.  Now that is a sight to see!  I'll share some of that adventure when I talk to ya'll next time.
