We all know that teachers have magic powers.  From eyes in the back of our heads to super-sonic hearing, we are a talented bunch, I tell you!  But this time of year, spring fever has hit, and with the end of the year in sight, we all need a little extra magic to keep us going!  So, in the next few weeks, I’m joining with my favorite intermediate teachers to put a little extra magic in our lessons and keep students engaged.

Credit goes to these talented graphic & font artists: Krista Wallden, KG Fonts & CC Fonts.

We will be swapping resources that will be just what we need to keep our students engaged during the final weeks of school.  We want to share our finds with you in a fun way – a 2-part blog hop giveaway!

Today, we present Part 1, with each blogger introducing the resource they selected to keep their friends engaged and learning in our final weeks together.  Then, over the course of the next two weeks, we will be using these resources in our classrooms.  On Sunday, May 11, we’ll be back to report on how well these resources kept our students engaged!

I am honored to be joining with this fabulous team of teachers, and I'm excited to be paired with the amazing Nicole Shelby! I have purchased and use several of Nicole's products in my classroom.  My favorites are her Interactive Reading and Interactive Language Notebooks.  My students love these! When I saw Nicole's new Flippin' Through the CCSS: Flip Flaps for Reading Notebooks-Grades 3-5 I knew this was perfect for some "Hocus Pocus" to keep my kiddos focused these last few weeks of school! This product is amazing (just like everything else Nicole creates), and I can't wait to share it with you on May 11!

Owl About My Spring Break, Cinquain Poems, and a Winner!

I am so tired, and so thankful that today is Friday! When my husband and I first married, I had been teaching for a couple of years.  My husband had earned his teaching degree, but had not yet found a teaching job.  He was working at a feed store until he could find a teaching job, so all day, he lifted feedbags, loaded feedbags, and did a lot of physical work. I would come home exhausted from a busy day of teaching.  My hubby would say, "Why are you so tired?"  He never said it, but he always implied that he did more work at his job than I did; therefore, I should not be tired.  I would simply say, "Just wait."  The next school year, he got his first teaching job.  Each day, he came home...tired!  (hee, hee, hee!)  I just giggled (and still do).  He finally understood!

Even though I'm tired, I'm ready and excited to link up with Doodle Bugs for 5 for Friday to share a few things from my week!

We came back from spring break this week, and my students wrote all about their week using my Owl About My Spring Break writing pages.  They loved these, and they enjoyed getting to share about their week! It was interesting to learn some new things about my kiddos! You'll find these for sale at my TpT store.

My students wrote Cinquain poems this week, and they were so creative! I just loved the variety of topics.  Students wrote about everything from pigs to rainbows to Elvis!  First, we watched this video of some awesome cinquains written by children.

Then my students got creative! Look as these fabulous poems!

I have also uploaded a new set of borders.  This set is a colored borders set that contains 15 different colors.  They are perfect for product covers, task cards, center activities, etc.  Be sure to check these out at my store.  (Just click on the pic below.)

Little Oh Anchor Chart

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs for Five for Friday (a day late).
http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2014/04/five-for-friday-linky-party-april-4th.html

March has been crazy busy.  We have had softball games, been busy at school, softball games, and more softball games.  I have enjoyed watching my daughter play, but we have definitely enjoyed this past week: Spring Break!!

Spring Break!

This week was my spring break! Wahoo! It was great.
Did your spring break to do list look anything like mine?
I had a huge to do list:  clean out the garage, clean the basement, make 5 new items for TpT, blog, clean out the flower beds, clean the house (deep clean- like clean windows, closets, pack away winter clothes, etc.) , spend time with the girls, watch Frozen with my daughter.

However, I think I only accomplished 2 goals on this list: spend time with the girls and watch Frozen.(which was wonderful!)  My girls also wanted to go shopping, so I couldn't say no to that! Shopping, watching a movie, and spending time with family sounds a lot more fun than cleaning!

Have you read Little Oh?

I actually used this book in my class a few weeks ago, but I wanted to share it with you.  Little Oh by Laura Krauss Melmed is a beautifully told story of a woman whose paper doll creation comes to life.  It is a great story to study character analysis.

Anchor Chart

We made this anchor chart as we analyzed Little Oh.  As I read this book to my class, students found evidence in the book of "how the character looked,"  "her behavior," etc.  Students talked to their partner to discuss the evidence, then we charted their findings.  My class really enjoyed this story.
